Essential Rochut Teaser [audio:essentialrochutteaser.mp3]

The Essential Rochut features a handful of well-known classical trombonists playing their favorite Bordogni Etudes, as arranged by Joannes Rochut. The Essential Rochut is an excellent learning tool for young and advanced players alike, offering a useful point of reference, and includes performances by Ralph Sauer (principal trombonist of the L.A. Philharmonic, retired), Scott Hartman (Yale University, Four of a Kind Trombone Quartet), Douglas Yeo (bass trombonist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra), Don Immel (solo/principal trombonist in the South Jutland Symphony Orchestra, Denmark), and John Rojak (bass trombonist in the American Brass Quintet).  Beginning in 2007 I traveled around the country to record these trombonists in various locations, including the Yale University campus and Boston’s Symphony Hall. The recordings are intimate and stylistically varied.

“What I didn’t anticipate from The Essential Rochut was its soothing quality. A place of repose provided by Rochut/Bordogni in a noisy world. But this is also gained from the players’ interpretations, which are, to me, uniformly warm, skilled, thoughtfuland refined.” –David Fetter, Peabody Institute

The Essential Rochut is an excellent educational tool for students and teachers alike, but it also makes for pleasant listening, thanks to the truly beautiful playing of those great trombonists.
